You would be astonished at the number of lip balms & hand creams I have in any of the various places I spend any significant amount of time (my apartment, my handbags, my desk, etc). There are a lot of great lip balms & hand creams on the market, but not one of them happens to come packaged together. Seriously, the idea is genius!
Burt’s Bees has been known in recent months for their stellar lip balm. I’ve falled in love with the Pomegranate Replenishing Lip Balm off the recommendation of a friend – I’ve ended up buying three to have stashed in various locations.
This Holiday season, share the love of smooth lips the natural way by gifting Burt’s Bees Lip Balm Purse Pack Gift Set. Stuffed with four Burt’s Bees lip balms including Replenishing (Pomegranate), Honey and two Beeswax lip balms, this gift makes a perfect thoughtful gift choice under $10.
I have so many lip balms that I am still using MAC’s Lip Conditioner out of the white tub. That’s how bad it is. No matter how many lip balms I have, the only one that I swear by is Burt’s Bees Replenishing Lip Balm with Pomegranate Oil. It’s amazing, and it actually works. Not to mention that it’s available nearly everywhere and smells amazing.
If you only buy one thing that I recommend, let it be this. Best $2.99 you’ll spend today.
Red of Choice: The Smashbox Always On Liquid Lipstick in Bang Bang is the lippie of my dreams. I bought it after a Smashbox MUA approached me in the Sephora, introduced herself as the “lipstick whisperer” (on the name tag and everything), and asked to change my life. She did.
First red memory: I love all bold lips but my very first red was from he brand Flirt! from Kohl’s in the color “Wicked.” I wore it with my Rosie the Riveter Halloween costume in college and then ALL the time after that.
Tip for finding the perfect red: All makeup is in the application! Exfoliate, exfoliate, exfoliate. Then balm. Apply your red by making a heart first on your top lip and make sure to fully line the bottom lip before filling in.
The NARS Lip Covers are highly underrated and dare I say, the best liquid lip formula to come out this year. Lip Cover lives somewhere between a liquid lipstick and a fully pigmented stain-gloss, but defies definition at both ends of the spectrum. It doesn’t dry down matte like traditional liquid lipsticks, but it doesn’t run or bleed like a highly pigmented gloss. The color can last all day and stays perfect, whether matte or glossy. In short, don’t sleep on this limited edition wonder!
Lip Cover ($28) succeeds where traditional liquid lipsticks fail: they provide comfortable, all-day wear that doesn’t bleed, and can be layered onto easily. As the gloss wears away, an even matte color is left on your lips that is exactly the same shade as the smooth, glossy formula. After the gloss is gone, you can layer more on without a problem or layer a lip balm or another gloss product on top. My only complaint is that there aren’t more shades available! Of the four shades released in the summer 2016 collection, two are brown nudes and two are reds. In my opinion, Members Only, a true blue red, is the must-have shade. If you’re fair like me, you might also enjoy Get Dirty, a pinky-brown nude. The other red, Do Not Disturb, is a warmer orange-red, and the other nude, Overheated, is a darker & more brown version of Get Dirty.
If you’re a lipstick aficionado, you might be wondering how it compares to a few similar formulas. NARS used to have a “liquid lipstick” type formula, but the name is escaping me. Like other traditional liquid lipsticks, it dried down matte, which Lip Cover does not. Similar in description, the Sephora Collection Luster Matte Long-Wear Lip Color is a slicker formula and doesn’t leave behind the same amount of perfect, even pigmentation as Lip Cover does. In fact, that closest formulation I’ve found is Revlon’s Ultra HD Matte LipColor (I’m wearing 660 Romance as I write this).
My one wish is for NARS to come out with more vampy, deep colors in Lip Cover. I was hoping that we’d get that in the fall 2016 collection, but maybe we’ll all get lucky for fall 2017. 😉
