Being from the south, I’m always a fan of big hair. The bigger the better, the closer to God, my hair is full of secrets, etc. Whenever I create a pompadour style, people always look at me in amazement. “Do you have a Bump It in there?” Frankly, no self-respecting gal with southern roots needs a Bump It. It’s also widely known that I’m pretty lazy when it comes to my hair, so an style that I love and wear frequently needs to be pretty easy.

U by Kotex and Goody teamed up this summer to offer a fun deal. When you text ‘KOTEX’ to ‘TARGET’ (827438), you’ll receive a coupon for free Goody hair elastics with the purchase U by Kotex products at Target. Pretty nifty, right?

Speaking of Goody, I used their Ouchless hair elastics to create my pompadour ponytail hairstyle.  Check out the video above or follow these easy steps:

  1. Part your hair on your preferred side by using the end of your teasing brush and creating a deep side part that is directly in line with the arch of your eyebrow.
  2. Spray your hair generously with dry shampoo.
  3. Using the end of the teasing brush, follow the line of your part along to the crown of your head and run the comb along the direction opposite of your part.
  4. Measuring from the arch of the eyebrow opposite your part, use the teasing brush to separate this front section from the rest of your hair.
  5. Clip the front section off and out of your way.
  6. Create a ponytail using the remainder of your hair, putting the elastic right below where the line at the crown of your head divides the front section of your hair.
  7. Unclip the front section of your hair and divide it into two sections.
  8. Tease each section gently and spray with the light hold hairspray or texturizer. If the teasing is evident through the front of the forward section, be sure to smooth it out as you go.
  9. Combine both sections of hair and pull them backwards. Continue to play and adjust the section until you get the amount of volume and height that you prefer. Feel free to brush gently with the teasing comb to mold the pompadour into your desired shape.
  10. Secure the front section of your hair directly behind the pompadour with two bobby pins. Cross them in an X for extra security.
  11. Take the loose hair and wrap it around your ponytail holder to bring the two sections together. Secure the end of the loose hair with bobby pins.
  12. Spray the pompadour with the extra hold hairspray. If you have any flyaways on the side of your ponytail, spray the area and use the can of hairspray to smooth them back. Also be sure to spray the section of hair wrapped around the ponytail.

Voila! Extra thanks to Kerastase and Butterfly Studio for teaching me how to create this style.
