I’m not sure if it’s the oppressive heat that suddenly appeared in NYC or that I desperately wish that I was on the beach right now, but I have been obsessed with teals lately. I guess it’s part of my summer color cycle, because I’ve written about my love for teal gel liners and NARS Larger Than Life eyeliner in Abbey Road is already in heavy rotation. When this lovely blue, appropriately named Galaxy, arrived with the other colors of Avon’s Cosmic Nail Enamel collection, I was instantly drawn to it.

The Cosmic colors are beautiful glitters, reminiscent of some of the holographic polishes on the market, but reinvented. I like to think of them as ‘adult glitter’, since they’re not over the top and aren’t difficult to remove. In the bottle, the colors have a sort of dusky quality to them, which really sets them apart.

Colors, clockwise from the upper left:

Moonbeam: This color is super special. It is an almost white silver that looks 3D after two coats on the nails.

Starburst: A beautiful raspberry with small silver shimmer

Eclipse: Another unique color, like a midnight sky. A black with silver shimmer and similar to Moonbeam, the color almost looks 3D on the nail as if the shimmer is suspended. Stunning!

Starlight: I really, really wanted this color to look great on me, but it’s great on medium-dark skintones. The yellow is a bit more green in person, making it this golden yellow green that is indescribable. The above photo even inspired Afrobella!

Super Nova:  A yellow red that reminds me a bit of MAC’s Viva Glam Cyndi lipstick with silver shimmer

Radiant: This color reminds the most of a galaxy. Like Starlight, the color has a bit of green to it with silver shimmer. Similar to Butter London’s Trustafarian, but a bit more gold (and cheaper).

Aurora: Though this may be named after the cosmic Aurora, it makes me think of Sleeping Beauty and Maleficent  who this would be the perfect purple for. Like the other colors from this collection, it also has silver shimmer in it.

Galaxy: Love, love, love. The silver shimmer doesn’t appear as prominent in the bottle as some of the other colors (namely Super Nova, Aurora, and Eclipse).
