The cost of creating content has always been something I’ve wanted to delve into, but I know that in many circles bloggers being paid for their efforts through affiliate links, sponsored posts, and ad revenue can get blood boiling. In addition, I’ve always wanted to write a post discussing the many ways we can support our favorite content creators. I know that there are many of you who are keen to support those of us filling the digital space with our lives and I would never want to take that support for granted.
Since I’ve started talking about my diagnosis and the flood of feelings associated with it, I have received messages, emails, and texts from friends all over the world (literally) who want to know what they can do to help. I’m so incredibly fortunate to have a strong support system in NYC to lend their time, kindness, and (most importantly) patience should I need it. Lola and I are going to be indebted to many, many people in the coming months.
The reality of this journey (I feel like I’m Chris Harrison hosting The Bachelor every time I type ‘journey’) is that everything isn’t always going to be this smooth sailing. I need to have major surgery and it’s going to take me much longer than I would prefer to recover. It has been my choice to work for myself for many years, but that becomes increasingly complicated when your health knocks you down. Friends have suggested that I start a crowdfunding campaign, but that’s not something I’m interested in for many reasons. Things are tough and they’re going to get tougher, but this isn’t the first time things have been tough and it won’t be the last.
I appreciate all of your thoughts, well wishes, and offers of help. In that spirit, I have created the following of list & affiliate links that you can use to support me that won’t cost you anything more than a social follow or a few minutes of your time. I’m more committed to creating content here than ever, and I’m working hard to leverage my platforms to sustain me through this time in ways that feel representative of who I am and what I believe.
If you’d like to help, here’s many ways you can support me. I appreciate anything you’re able to do, even if it’s well wishes and positive tweets. <3
