Coney Island Wonder Wheel

Each year, my friends and I make an effort to make the trip out to Coney Island to unwind, unplug, and bask in the sun. This summer we couldn’t make it out until the heat had already started to fade, like colors left too long in direct sunlight. It feels like the entire boardwalk has been frozen in time, with restaurants, bars, and fried food that is no longer socially acceptable to consume.

Airbrush tattoos, fortune teller readings and a spin (or two) around the Wonder Wheel are all required activities, and no trip is complete without indulging in cotton candy, lemonade, and hot dogs. It’s the place we go to escape it all and I wouldn’t have it any other way.

When I met Eye4Style for brunch, it was one of those almost-warm-but-not-yet-quite spring days, but I was determined to bare my legs! I also happen to be blindingly white, so I gave them  a quick coat of Sally Hansen’s new Airbrush Legs. My point is, sometimes you just need to feel a cool breeze and the warmth of the sun on your legs. The weirdo weather we’ve been having in NYC is causing all kinds of wardrobe confusion and as a result, I’ve ended up wearing all kinds of color everywhere. That’s what the warmer months are for, right?

In early spring, it always feels like we’re chasing the sun. Walking on the sunny side of the street, dressing for the warmest part of the day, and doing everything we can to encourage spring to HURRY UP ALREADY. As anxious as we are, it’s never long (mere weeks, in fact) before the crisp spring air becomes warm and then suddenly summer is here. My point? Enjoy it before it’s gone!

Do you ever get that feeling that you’re not really out living your life? Like you’re trapped behind your desk or attached to your device looking at other people living their life while you chip away at a to-do list? This was definitely not one of those weeks. I got caught in a whirlwind of events, a sleepover, and an accidental bar crawl. To recap last week, let’s start at the top left and move clockwise to center:

Carol’s Daughter launches Lavender & Vanilla collection: After a recent discussion with a few beauty girls, I discovered that I’m not the only one that loves to smell yummy when I crawl into bed. I may not always go as far to spray a fragrance, but I love warm, luxurious scents. Carol’s Daughter Lavender & Vanilla collection is a perfect combination, with the relaxing qualities of lavender with the warmth of vanilla. The Shea Souffle has quickly found a permanent home on my nightstand.

L’Occitane launches a new fragrance collection: I had the pleasure of attending a breakfast in honor of L’Occitane’s newest fragrance collection at Rouge Tomate. Inspired by Grasse, the four new fragrances are elegant in their simplicity. They launch April 17th and i’ll be sharing more thoughts about them soon!

The first al fresco meal of the season!: In NYC, we seize any opportunity to eat/drink outside. I met my friend Heather for guacamole and margaritas at Dos Caminos and decided, admittedly prematurely, that we should sit outside. It may have been chilly, but we were so grateful for the moment the sun finally shone down on us.

Unicorn Poop: Yes, you read that correctly. On Saturday, we made a post brunch trip to Macaron Parlour, where my friends opted for flavors like Early Grey and Cheeto. I was distracted by the ice cream sandwich made of two brightly colored macaron cookies and filled with salted caramel ice cream. It was perfection!

Fekkai’s Wave Makers: It’s the time of year where everyone starts getting really excited about beach waves and I’m no exception. Fekkai has introduced these fascinating foam rollers called Wave Makers that you can score for free with any $75 Fekkai purchase from Nordstrom, Saks, Dillards, and Fekkai salons/online. I tried these before the sleepover and they really do work to create really easy, toussled waves that look totally effortless. These are limited edition, so get to moving!

All hail the Selfie-vator: I had the privilege of spending the night at the Dream Downtown thanks to my friends at Pantene (more on that soon), I asked my friend Alia to join me for a recreation of our youth, complete with candy in bed, gossip magazines, and beauty products. The mirrored elevators are perfect for selfies and silly faces.

Neon or bust: One particularly cold, sometimes rainy day, I just couldn’t take it anymore. It may have been barely 40 degrees, but I’ll be damned if I have to suffer through my winter wardrobe any longer. I pulled out my favorite neon tote (from Nine West, no longer available) and my gold oxfords from Barefoot Tess (you can shop them here) to show spring that I mean business.

Essie’s Resort & Bridal Collections: Essie really knows how to launch a collection, and the recent resort & bridal launches are no exception. The resort collection is based on island vacations (where I’d like to be right now) and the bridal collection is based on floral tones, making it super wearable even for those who won’t be walking down the aisle. You can see Using My Maiden Name in my maragrita photo in the top right and in an upcoming Nail of the Week!

By the time last Monday rolled around, I refused to play along with winter’s games. In NYC, we hadn’t truly  had a taste of winter and we were rapidly approaching another fashion week season. I was fed up and concocted an overwhelmingly neon look, including my neon pink Kate Spade bag (love) and (a risky) neon green Sally Hansen set of polish strips.

Sally Hansen’s polish strips are an excellent way to get elaborate designs and patterns without paying a fortune, but they’re also a great way to get color payoff, especially in the neon category. The neon green I chose is called Groove, but there are several other neons, including yellow, orange and a great pink that you’ll have to see to believe.

I’m currently sitting in the lobby of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week at Lincoln Center and admittedly, neon fever is everywhere. In the front row of Tibi there were at least 5 neon beanies and those darn Cambridge Satchels still persist. If you haven’t gotten the neon bug yet, now’s the time.

Sally Hansen Polish Strips can be found in almost any drugstore for around $9 per set.
